Love your lanai even more by adding outdoor DIY curtains and an area rug:
Lanai- Curtains & Rug— $22 canvas drop cloths & a couple cans of paint.
A well known hardware store sponsored me to design a couple of outdoor spaces to show consumers how you can live the resort feel without the resort price tag. If you really want to bring the indoors out for a relaxing retreat, try adding outdoor curtains and an area rug, and better yet, make your own! You’d be amazed at how well it can transform your space.
Check out the difference: The furniture put a fun spin on this area (it’s is from the popular Scott Brother’s line, https://scottlivinghome.com). The modular sofa section is beautiful but it’s the panels around the windows and rug that really tie it all together. Isn’t it amazing how something so simple can make such a big difference.
Outdoor rugs and curtains can cost hundreds of dollars. If you want to live the resort feel without the resort price tag, grab some canvas cloths, a can of paint, and get to work and you’ll be relaxing in no time with a little extra money for food and drinks!
You can make this rug one of two ways- use a canvas drop cloth and glue backing fabric or if you have an old rug around that could use a walk of new life: make a duvet cover like I did here. Measure and cut the rug to fit the canvas cloth, reinforce the back with duct tape (because duct tape), and tape out your design with painters tape. Using an old rug is a great way to restore the one you’ve already invested in and it will also provide additional strength to your canvas cloth. Bonus: if later on you decide to redecorate… just create another new duvet or bring back the old rug! Piece of cake.
We all know the pricey cost of curtains… not here!
Use the same ideas with the drop cloths as you did with the rug for “no sew” curtains.
Talk about total transformation! Add some string lighting and you set the mood in an instant!
